Colorado Game Management Unit 12 is heralded nationwide as home to the largest elk herd in North America, and J-Bar-H Outfitters is the Premier Outfitter in this unit. Due to the four-point antler restriction instituted in  this area by the Colorado Division of Wildlife, we enjoy hunting quality bull elk not found in many  other areas. No motorized vehicles are allowed,  further  improving the quality of your hunt. All of our tent camps are accessed by horse or mule only.

At J-Bar-H Outfitters we specialize in providing personalized service and do our best to meet  the individual needs of our hunters. While we cannot control the weather or the wildlife, we can control our service. You can expect 110% from  your J-Bar-H staff. All of our guides, packers & wranglers are  knowledgeable of our permit area. Our guides are friendly, courteous  professionals who are medic first aid trained. In their own words... our hunters say it best!

Jeanne:  Where do I start? From day one all of us had an outstanding time on our 2010 hunt. (The 5 x 6 bull and cow didn’t hurt too much either.) The food, the staff, the camp…all of it was first class. When I think of what an Elk Camp should look like, J-Bar-H has it all. You can count on us becoming regulars.  Well done and many thanks.

Hello Jeanne, I just wanted to tell you what a great hunt I had first rifle season 2009.  Your crew,  and packers where absolutely great. We saw lots of elk opening  morning.  I saw 7 legal bulls, 2 six by six, 2 five by 5, a couple 4x, and I shot a really nice five by six.  Our group was done by 3 PM the first day.  I love that first season when they are bugling.  It is what dreams are made of.  Put our group down for another 1st season rifle hunt in 2011. Thanks again for running an excellent operation. Top notch.

Our 2010 Elk Hunt was amazing!  It's refreshing to see an outfitter and crew strive to accomplish the perfect experience.  A beautiful ride on well mannered stock to a nicely placed camp kicked it all off.  The elk we heard bugling brought much excitement and the animals we saw were as majestic as the mountain scenery.  Thanks to all of you who took part in making our drop camp adventure wonderful.  You guys really did your part and oh yes, while I don't think he was part of the payroll, thanks to the big bull I harvested.  We will be back again.

Dear Jeanne, What a great operation.  We made our annual elk  hunt with Bar H for 2009.  From the great night spent at the lodge and  hospitality, to a magnificent ride, to a camp that was impressive, to  the elk we heard bugling while we were unloading our gear made this adventure the greatest elk hunt ever.  We have hunted elk together for 13 years and I have never been on a better hunt.  I shot my elk within  sight of the tents of camp.  I enjoy calling animals and found the elk to respond tremendously to my calling to the point that I had 6 to 12 elk around me every time I left camp.  The question that we always pondered  was which bull elk do we go after?  I can not wait to come back; the only disappointment is that I will need to wait three years before I can  return.  Please do not hesitate to include my name on your reference  list.  I have traveled all over the world hunting and exploring,  including Antarctica with National Geographic, and I would consider this  hunt as World Class.
In appreciation of all you do,
D. Kussmaul
